We are pleased to announce that the next biennial international conference, “Constructionist Approaches to Language Pedagogy” (CALP-5), will be held on March 4-6, 2026, on-site at the University of Tromsø - The Arctic University of Norway (UiT).

The goal of this conference is to explore how Construction Grammar (Fillmore 1988, Croft 2001, Goldberg 2006) can inform and advance Language Pedagogy by creating innovative teaching strategies and educational resources.

CALP-5 follows in the footsteps of previous CALP conferences:

CALP1 in Brussels, Belgium (2013) organized by Gaëtanelle Gilquin and Sabine De Knop,
CALP2 in Basel, Switzerland (2016) organized by Heike Behrens and Karin Madlener,
CALP3 in Austin, USA (2018) organized by Hans C. Boas, Alexander Lorenz, Marc Pierce, and John D. Benjamin,
CALP4 in Erlangen, Germany (2024) organized by Thorsten Piske, Thomas Herbst, Yassine Iabdounane and Iryna Fokashchuk.

Margunn Rauset leads the lexicographical community at the University of Bergen (Norway) and has played a pivotal role in the revision of the two major dictionaries of Norwegian, Bokmålsordboka and Nynorskordboka. Her research primarily focuses on lexicography, phraseology, and the idiomatic differences between multi-word expressions found in the two official written forms of Norwegian, Bokmål and Nynorsk. Since 2007, she has been actively involved in the practical development of both mono- and bilingual dictionaries. In 2017, she became a member of the Norwegian Language Council’s Expert Committee for Standardization and Language Observation, and starting in 2025, she serves as the chair of this committee. Her doctoral dissertation (2022) examines the gap between how people actually use fixed expressions in Bokmål and Nynorsk and how dictionaries convey the norms for these written standards. In addition to her academic work, she has, for many years, translated both fiction and non-fiction from Icelandic into the two written standards of Norwegian (Bokmål and Nynorsk).

Dr. Olesya Kisselev is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at The University of South Carolina and major collaborator in the project “Hybrid STEP in the second language classroom” hosted at UiT and funded by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (2025-2027). Her primary research expertise lies in corpus linguistics and discourse analysis, especially as they apply to the study of second and heritage language development and maintenance, as well as various aspects of bi/multilingualism and diasporic language practices. Dr. Kisselev has a distinguished track record of funded research. She currently serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Advanced Language Proficiency Education and Research (CALPER) and the Director of the STARTALK Institute for Teachers: Proficiency-Based Pedagogy for Russian at the Middlebury College. Among her most recent achievements are the textbook Rodnaya Rech’: An Introductory Course for Heritage Learners of Russian (Georgetown University Press, 2021), which received the AATSEEL Book Prize Award for Best Contribution to Pedagogy (2023), and the co-edited volume Russian as a Heritage Language: From Research to Classroom Applications, dedicated to advances and innovations in Russian Heritage Language Pedagogy (Routledge, 2024).
