Information about The Tromsø Study

Dear Citizen of Tromsø,
UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites all residents born before December 31, 1985, and whose residence is registered in Tromsø municipality as of January 1, 2025, to participate in the Tromsø Study. The study will take place in the period March 2025 to December 2026. Last opening day is December 22nd, 2026.

If you have received a postcard or an SMS-message from us, you are invited.

Participation involves completing a questionnaire and undergoing a health examination. We will take blood samples and measure your weight, height, blood pressure, and heart rate. A random selection of participants will be chosen for additional tests. Please note that the Tromsø Study can be conducted in either Norwegian or English.

Once we are ready to receive you, you will receive an SMS prompting you to log in to "Helseboka.no." There, you will find your personal invitation letter with information about your appointment and additional details. We will be ready to receive you one week after you have received a postcard from us in the mail. If you cannot find the information on Helseboka.no, please bring your card, identification, and bank ID to the Tromsø Study location at Sjølundvegen 3 for drop-in service.

Our opening hours are:

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 08:00 – 15:30
• Thursday: 08:00 – 18:00
• The following Saturdays in 2026 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM:
  January 10th, February 7th, April 11th, May 9th, June 6th, August 8th, September 5th, October 3rd, November 11th and December 5th.

We are closed in connection with public holidays, vacations, and professional development days. We will be closed on the following days in 2026:

• January 5th, March 20th, March 28th - April 6th (Easter), May 15th, July 3rd - August 2nd (summer vacation), September 18th, and October 30th.

Did you receive an invitation in 2025?

Your invitation is still valid, even if your appointment has passed. You do not need to contact us for a new appointment. Bring your ID and BankID, and visit us during our drop-in opening hours.

By participating in the Tromsø Study, you contribute to important health research both nationally and internationally. You will also receive a free health check and feedback on your own health. As a participant, you can be confident that all the information you have provided to the Tromsø Study by participating is treated with respect for privacy, and in accordance with laws and regulations.
