MAT-3111 Differential Geometry 2 - 10 ECTS

The course is included in the study program Mathematical Sciences - master. It may also be taken independent of study program upon approval of the Department of mathematics and statistics.

Admission requirements

Bachelor of science degree in mathematics or equal. Recommended prerequsites is MAT-3110 Differential Geometry 1 or a similar course in differential geometry.

Course content

Vector bundles, connections, Riemannian geometry, symplectic geometry, vector distributions, jet-calculus, integration on manifolds and de Rham cohomology, Lie groups and algebras.

MAT-3110 Differential Geometry

Objectives of the course

The candidate shall:

  • obtain a solid knowledge and understanding of connections on vector bundles, various geometries including Riemannian and symplectic, their equivalences and invariants.
  • be able to perform calculations in concrete examples, using these concepts, in particular compute curvatures and symmetries of geometric structures.

Language of instruction and examination

The language of instruction and the syllabus is English. Examination questions will be given in English, but may be answered either in English or a Scandinavian language.
