The doctoral thesis!    Prøveforelesning over oppgitt emne holdes kl. 10.15, samme sted: Redegjør for utviklingen av forskningen på samiske etniske identiteter og kultur med særlig vekt på skolefrafall, og drøft hvordan perspektiver på resiliens kan berike eller utvide forståelsen av dette feltet. This doctoral project adopts a qualitative approach to exploring everyday life in upper secondary schools, focusing on individuals' own experiences and narratives. The teachers and their collaborators demonstrated remarkable dedication to supporting and motivating students to attend school, stay engaged, and participate in school activities. However, the primary emphasis was on facilitating pedagogy that supported individual students, while culturally sensitive approaches to Sámi culture were often relegated to the background. Bullying, exclusion, and health challenges emerged as the primary concerns raised by the youth, with schooling taking a secondary role. Some Sámi youth exhibited a unique storytelling approach, which acted as a protective factor. This study underscores the urgent need for sensitive strategies to continuously assess and address bullying, exclusion, and victimisation in schools, thereby ensuring inclusive education. Furthermore, it highlights the role of storytelling in supporting mental health, educational engagement, and social integration among Sámi youth and other groups.
