Summit tourism in Northern Norway is growing rapidly, and when people have invested time and money to get here, the threshold for turning back becomes high – even when the avalanche risk is significant.
At the same time, avalanche assessments are complex, local, and demanding, and we cannot expect visitors to master them on their own, especially as a more unstable climate makes the winter mountains more unpredictable.
In this lecture, Audun Hetland, head of CARE, demonstrates how ten years of research and close collaboration with organisations such as the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) are now being translated into concrete, tested solutions – in conjunction with the establishment of the National Avalanche Centre – to make good decisions easier and save lives.
Max 30 seats.
CARE - Center for avalanche research and education

- We would like to welcome Audun Hetland who will share experiences from his own innovation project CARE, with a particular focus on the challenges and opportunities connected to non-commercial or social innovation. This InnoHub Insights session will explore how ideas with societal impact rather than profit are developed, sustained, and brought to life in practice.
You will gain insight into alternative innovation pathways and the realities of working with social and community-oriented initiatives. The presentation is designed to be relevant both for outdoor enthusiasts and for researchers and practitioners engaged in social innovation, offering perspectives that connect research, practice, and societal impact.
Bernd Striberny, InnoHub manager
The session will also open for dialogue, inviting participants to reflect on how non-commercial innovation can create lasting value and inspire new ways of thinking within their own projects and fields.
