The street gallery Living with the Ocean challenges audiences with pictures and thought-provoking, sometimes humorous, questions about the past, present, and future of coastal cultures. The purpose is to encourage communities worldwide to rethink their multifaceted relationships with water. Launched in Europe in 2024, this traveling exhibition has already visited three continents. On the occasion of Arctic Frontiers 2026, the collection has been expanded with contributions from students who participated in the Arctic Future Pathfinders expedition in 2025 and interdisciplinary researchers from UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

The formal opening will take place on Monday, 2nd February 2026, at 13:00 at Strandtorget and will include other situated art and celebrations:

  • Linus Johnsen (Norwegian-Sámi Artist)
  • Jonas Stein (Pro-Rector, Research Communication, UiT The Arctic University of Norway)
  • Cathrine Paus (Head of Public Operation, Arctic University Museum of Norway)
  • Lilli Mittner (Curator of the exhibition, UiT’s Center for Arctic Humanities)

This outdoor exhibition will be located between the Edge Hotel and Nerstranda Shopping Centre, a short stroll from the venue. It will be displayed throughout the week and during the Arctic Frontiers Conference 2026.
