This course provides opportunities for acquisition and development of skills of the document preparation system LaTeX. This software is the de facto standard used in the scientific community and is a very useful tool in the production of mathematical and scientific texts. Due to its high quality printing, it can also be used to produce personal documents, articles, books, theses, presentations, among others.

SKILLS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Write a scientific article for an international journal, using the LaTeX style provided by the editor.
2. Write a thesis or a book, without having to worry about style and formatting.
3. Write a letter or memo using the predefined LaTeX styles.
4. Create a bibliographic database using BibTeX.
5. Create an index for a book, using makeindex.
6. Include math equations in a LaTeX document.
7. Include figures and photographs in a LaTeX document.
8. Create a LATEX document distributed in several separate files.
- At the end of this course, the participant should be able to use LaTeX proficiently;
- The participant should be able to write a document in LaTeX, containing the elements commonly used in mathematical and scientific texts.
SCHEDULE FOR THE TWO DAYS
Day 1:
Introduction - what is LaTeX and why should we use it?
LaTeX Basics - classes, styles, commands, structure, etc
Creating the title, table of contents and table of figures.
Typesetting math with LaTeX
Day 2:
LaTeX environments and floats - inserting pictures, tables in a LaTeX document
Creating the bibliography and index automatically.
Reference managers for LaTeX.
Using styles - templates for an article, thesis or a book.
