Truth, reconciliation, and education: Towards an education for hope

How can we enable and strengthen educational institutions to work towards reconciliation between and within Indigenous, northern national minority and majority communities in the Nordic countries?

As truth and reconciliation commisions (TRCs) are investigating the consequences of assimilation policies and processes in many different parts of the world, the Nordic countries are trying to figure out what comes next. In this seminar, we present experiences and reflections from Norway, Sweden, and Australia and we ask how teacher education can take an active part in the reconciliation process and how that can be done.

Program:

- Introduction - Truth, reconciliation, and education: Towards an education for hope:  (Torjer)

A round of reflections from different contexts:

- Sweden (Björn Norlin and Anna-Lill Drugge, Umeå university)

- Finland (Pigga Keskitalo, University of Lapland)

- Australia (Matthew Keynes, University of Melbourne)

- Norway (Hilde Sollid, Åse Mette Johansen and Torjer Olsen, UiT)

Conversation.

We invite educators, scholars and students to join the conversation.
