Lecturer: Stefan Rabanus (University of Verona)
The goal of this short course is the acquisition of skills which are necessary for conducting linguistic analysis and creating a presentation of the results using digital instruments. In order to reach this goal, two instruments will be introduced: (1) the database and search/visualization environment ANNIS, exemplified which a morphosyntactically annotated corpus of medieval German ("Referenzkorpus Mittelhochdeutsch", ReM: https://annis.linguistics.rub.de/REM) and (2) the geographic information system REDE SprachGIS (https://www.regionalsprache.de/en/SprachGIS/Map.aspx). During class students will be guided in (1) the extraction of data related to linguistic features from the "Referenzkorpus Mittelhochdeutsch" using ANNIS and in (2) the mapping of the geographical distribution of the data using REDE SprachGIS. The expected result of the project is a short term paper (min. 5, max. 10 pages) that features maps which depict the geographic distribution of the features under investigation.
The course will be in person only.
