June 2026: ERC Advanced Grant for Sari Pietikäinen and RiverPulse

RiverPulse is beating! The MultiTrans team is delighted to announce that our team member and friend Sari Pietikäinen has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant of €2.5 million for RiverPulse — an interdisciplinary project investigating how climate change, natural resources, language, culture and Indigenous knowledge are interconnected across the Arctic.

Sari spent the last academic year as a member of MultiTrans while developing the RiverPulse project proposal. We deeply admire the effort and dedication behind this well-deserved ERC funding and extraordinary academic achievement. Our warmest congratulations to Sari, to MultiTrans leader Hilde Sollid, and to Marie Maegaard (University of Copenhagen and University of Kalaallit Nunaat), who will join RiverPulse as researchers. What a major win for ethnographic, qualitative, women‑led and Indigenous research at UiT! We are so proud and look forward to following this important work on human–nature relations in the Arctic in the years to come!
