Three Years of Successful Collaboration Graduated at the Final GEOSUMAT Meeting

The Geosumat project was successfully concluded during the final meeting and an online seminar broadcast from Iceland on 27th May, 2025.

Consortium members of the Geosumat project gathered to conclude the research conducted during the 3-year project, funded by M-ERA.NET. In total, 18 representatives of all project partners got together and reflected on the knowledge gained during the project. The event lasted four days, began with a field trip to explore potential new resources for geopolymer production in Iceland, continued with an online seminar and an administrative meeting, and concluded with a laboratory tour.

The online seminar consisted of 8 lectures given by representatives of Cracow University of Technology, Gerosion, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and the Czech Technical University. There were 43 registered participants: 55% from academia, 26% from industry, and 19% from research institutes. Most participants were from Europe specifically Finland, Latvia, Norway, the UK, and Poland as well as from India and Kazakhstan. Notably, 43% of participants were women, demonstrating a reasonably balanced gender representation among those interested.

The seminar lasted one and a half hours and was followed by a technical discussion among project members on all the presented results which continued for nearly three hours. The discussion was highly productive with participants sharing new knowledge, identifying limitations, and exploring potential areas for continued collaboration. The event concluded with a laboratory tour led by Jan and Kristjan from Gerosion.

All participants left Iceland with great memories of a successful project and the establishment of not only research collaboration, but also personal friendships.

With that, I, project leader Iveta Novakova, would like to thank all the project team members for their excellent and thorough work over the past three years.
