Walking Together, Learning to Hear and See

We will walk, listen, and reflect together, combining the practices of pedagogic trails (peace-, sound-, and future-oriented) with Arctic placemaking. Beginning at Telegrafbukta, the walk follows Tromsøya’s southern edge toward Sydspissen, through what appears to be an ‘unspoilt’ natural setting, or at least what tourism would have us believe. In fact, the openness associated with the right to roam (allemannsretten) carries traces of the enduring presence of Sámi culture. Along the way, we pass a notice describing the former Nazi detention camp at Sydspissen, where a QR code invites further engagement with difficult memories. Nature, people, history, and technology intertwine in an embodied experience that is both multisensory and multilayered, inviting a deeper understanding of peace and peace-making.
