Andrea Söllinger

Job description

As a microbiologist and microbial ecologist, I am studying microorganisms and complex microbial communities in natural, human-impacted, and host-associated ecosystems, including grasslands, Arctic heathlands and tundra, wetlands, and ruminant animals.

I am an independent researcher at the Department of Arctic and Marine Biology (AMB), affiliated with the Cells in the Cold Laboratory, a sub-division of the Microorganisms and Plants Research Group.

I am currently leading two projects:

SHRINK – Is Global Warming Shrinking Soil Microorganisms?

An RCN Researcher Project for Young Talents (FRIPRO) running from May 2024 – April 2028

Winter-is-coming – But do soil microorganisms know and prepare accordingly?

An RCN Radical Research Ideas for Early Career Scientists (FRIPRO) running from August 2026 – July 2027

    Teaching

Even though my current position technically does not included teaching, I have been supervising and co-supervising bachelor, master, and PhD students at UiT since I started working here and I am currently taking the UNIPED-100 course (foundational course in university pedagogy).

Furthermore, I founded the Microbiology @ UiT Journal Club in April 2022 and have been organizing it ever since.
