Job description

I am a PhD fellow in English Literature. My research project, “Sharpening the Moral Imagination”: Political Violence and the Ethics of Reading, investigates three contemporary novels that portray various forms of political violence. The analysis takes place on two levels: through close readings informed by existing theories of ethical reading, hermeneutics, and cultural memory, and through a qualitative analysis involving everyday readers. The current period of Covid-19 and successive lockdowns has led to a surge in reading, online book-clubs and other reading groups. It is therefore a key moment to consider what reading brings to individual and social lives and what questions that raises for reading “difficult” texts, such as the ones I am studying.

I am a member of the research group Interdisciplinary Phenomenology, the ReadRespond project on Literature, History and Human Rights, and FemArc, a multidisciplinary research group focusing on feminist theory and gender - at UiT.
