Welcome to UiT The Arctic University of Norway!
UiT offers a wide range of study and research opportunities for Fulbright students and scholars from the United States. Whether you’re interested in taking courses, pursuing a full degree, or conducting research, UiT has options for you in both English and Norwegian.
Choose your application pathway
For students who wish to take individual courses without enrolling in a full degree programme. For advice and help, please contact mobility@uit.no.
Application submission deadlines
- Autumn semester (August - December): opening date 15 MARCH - Deadline 30 APRIL.
- Spring semester (January - June): opening date 15 SEPTEMBER - Deadline 31 OCTOBER.
Course publishing dates:
Course catalogues for incoming exchange students are updated each semester:
- 15 September for students beginning in the spring semester (January–July)
- 15 March for students beginning in the autumn semester (August–December)

Norwegian courses for international students (Campus Tromsø Only)
Levels A1 (0 ECTS), Level A2 (0 ECTS), and Level B1 (0 ECTS) are available to all exchange students at Campus Tromsø only. The classes are held in the afternoons and evenings.

UiT offers a variety of study programmes with English as the language of instruction. Admission to full degree programmes at UiT is organized once a year, and the application period runs from November to December.
Please note that applications for full degree studies at UiT are handled by the central Admission Office.

The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) is not an accredited institution, and as such exchange students from universities that have a formal agreement with UiT The Arctic University of Norway, can apply to UNIS for courses and research and be registered as a student at UiT after being accepted by UNIS.
Applying for semester exchange at UNIS involves three steps:
- Apply directly to UNIS - Visit the UNIS website: UNIS - The university centre in Svalbard
- Get nominated by your home educational institution to UiT: your home educational institution must nominate you via UiT's online nomination service (Nomination Web) For Partner Institutions: Online Nomination Procedures for Exchange Students | UiT
- Submit documents to UiT after nomination, you will receive an email from UiT with instructions to log in to the Application Web )Søknadsweb) to submit ONLY your (1) passport and (2) transcript of records. What happens next?
- Follow up with your application at UNIS until you receive an official acceptance/admission offer.
- Once accepted, notify UiT by email at mobility@uit.no.
- You will then be registered as a student at UiT, which means UiT will issue your transcript of records for all examinations completed at UNIS.
