Welcome, prospective exchange student!
If you are considering studying at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, we are delighted that you are interested. This page provides a clear overview of the eligibility criteria for our exchange programmes.
Please review the following eligibility criteria and application procedures.
To apply for an exchange programme at UiT The Arctic University of Norway:

Contact your home institution
Reach out to your exchange coordinator or International Office to confirm if an exchange agreement exists with UiT. -
Get nominated
If an agreement is in place, ask to be officially nominated for exchange at UiT. -
Start your application
Once nominated, UiT will send you an invitation email with instructions on how to submit your application and required documents.

- Autumn semester (August - December): START 15 MARCH - DEADLINE 15 APRIL.
- Spring semester (January - June): START 15 SEPTEMBER - DEADLINE 15 OCTOBER.

- Autumn semester (August - December): START 15 MARCH - DEADLINE 30 APRIL.
- Spring semester (January - June): START 15 SEPTEMBER - DEADLINE 31 OCTOBER.

To qualify as an exchange student at UiT, you must:
- Be nominated through a valid exchange agreement by your home university.
- Receive an invitation email from UiT to apply.
- Be currently enrolled at your home institution.
- Have a good command of English (B2 or C1 level according to CEFR).
- Be physically present at UiT and actively participate in courses and exams.
Note:
Online-only course modules do not qualify for exchange status unless you are admitted to a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) or online microcourses.

All applicants must demonstrate sufficient English proficiency unless they meet one of the exemptions below:
Exemptions

Erasmus+ students from institutions in the EU, Türkiye, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Liechtenstein:
No documentation required. -
Nordic students with upper secondary education in Finland, Faroe Islands, Denmark, Greenland, Iceland, or Sweden:
No documentation required if you've studied a Scandinavian language and English. -
Students from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and the USA:
No documentation required if you're a native speaker or studying primarily in English.
Other regions
Students from Africa (except South Africa), Caucasus (Armenia and Georgia), China, Japan, Latin America, and South Korea should ask their home institution to issue a certificate confirming English proficiency at B2 or C1 level.
Nordic students with upper secondary school education in Finland, Faroe islands, Denmark, Greenland, Iceland and Sweden
If you have upper secondary school qualifications granting general admission to higher education in your home country, and have studied in your native language (Danish and Sweden) at the most advanced level at upper secondary school, you are not required to take a Norwegian language proficiency test.Other students
If you plan to take courses taught in Norwegian, you must document your proficiency.

🌍 Students from Africa (except South Africa), the Caucasus (Armenia and Georgia), China, Japan, Latin America, and South Korea
If you are applying from one of these regions, please ask your Exchange Coordinator or the International Office at your home institution to issue a certificate, letter, or document confirming that you meet the English language requirements—B2 or C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
You may also submit an official English language test result, although this is optional. If you choose to do so, please ensure that your test results are valid and not older than two years at the time of application.
