🌍 Exchange admission overview – UiT The Arctic University of Norway

Welcome to UiT!

If you’ve been nominated for an exchange semester or traineeship, this guide walks you through the entire admission process—from nomination to arrival.

🟢 Step 1: Nomination by your home educational institution

To apply for exchange studies or a traineeship at UiT, your university must have an active exchange agreement with UiT.

📅 Nomination Deadlines

• Autumn Semester: 15 March – 15 April
• Spring Semester: 15 September – 20 October

📝 Step 2: Application submission

Once nominated, you’ll receive an email invitation to apply via Søknadsweb (Application Web).

📅 Application Deadlines

• Autumn Semester: Start: 15 March – Deadline: 30 April.
• Spring Semester: Start: 15 September – Deadline: 30 October.

🔗 How to Apply for Exchange

📄 Step 3: Document check

UiT’s Exchange Team will review your application and documents before forwarding them to the academic department.

✅ Required documents:

1. Valid exchange agreement
2. Correct campus/department and semester
3. Complete Learning Agreement
4. Proof of English/Norwegian proficiency (if required)
5. Transcript of Records from your home university

📅 Document review period

• Autumn: 15 March – 10 May
• Spring: 15 September – 10 November

🏫 Step 4: Academic assessment

Your host department at UiT will assess your application based on:

• Course prerequisites (for studies)
• Availability of supervisors or placements (for traineeships)

📅 Assessment Period

• Autumn: 10 May – 31 May
• Spring: 10 November – 30 November

📬 Step 5: Admission decision

Successful applicants will receive a Notification of Admission by email. Your Acceptance Letter and signed Learning Agreement will be available for download in Søknadsweb.

📅 Decision Period

• Autumn: 1 June – 15 June
• Spring: 1 December – 15 December

✅ Step 6: Accept or decline your offer

Log in to Søknadsweb using your email and password to accept or decline your offer by the deadline stated in your admission email.

🏠 Step 7: Apply for student housing

Apply for housing as soon as you receive your invitation email from UiT.

📅 Housing Deadlines

• Autumn Semester: 31 May
• Spring Semester: 30 November

🛂 Important for Non-EU/EEA Students:
You must apply for housing to receive a housing guarantee, which is required for your visa application.
