Mana Elise Hera Tugend


Job description

Mana har en mastergrad i polarrett fra Universitetet i Akureyri på Island, og tar for tiden en doktorgrad ved Norsk senter for havrett (NCLOS). 

Hennes doktorgrad har tittelen Sustaining Good Relations with Nature: An Analysis of Rights of Nature and Relationality Towards Restorying of International Environmental Law. Basert på premisset om at de dualistiske og antropocentriske grunnlagene for juridisk modernitet hindrer miljørettens evne til å håndtere den globale sosioøkologiske krisen, utforsker hennes avhandling hvordan internasjonal miljørett kan «omskrives» gjennom relasjonelle tilnærminger til forholdet mellom menneske og natur. Med relasjonalitet som sentralt teoretisk og metodologisk rammeverk, undersøker hennes forskning kritisk de innebygde dualismene i miljøretten, tolker naturens rettigheters transformative potensial og skisserer alternative juridiske fremtider. Gjennom casestudier fra Stillehavsregionen, inkludert den juridiske anerkjennelsen av Whanganui-elven i Aotearoa New Zealand og relasjonelle praksiser i Stillehavet, avslører hennes avhandling hvordan relasjonelle tilnærminger kan rokke ved dominerende juridiske antagelser og forutse mer gjensidige, sammenkoblede og bærekraftige forhold mellom mennesket og naturen.

Hun er også foreleser og underviser i internasjonal miljørett og havrett.
